Friday, 30 October 2020

The UIP was saddened to hear of the recent passing of Dr Pierre Wallois. Dr Wallois was the first General Secretary of the UIP and lasted in the position for many years. The following obituary was written by Dr JJ Guex in a recent communication from the French Society of Phlebology.

We are saddened by the death of Dr Pierre Wallois.

Dr Wallois was a distinguished member of the French Society of Phlebology from its inception. He was the pupil and son-in-law of Raymond Tournay, founder of the SFP and promoter of "French-style" sclerotherapy. Dr Wallois had long been the Secretary General of the SFP and President at the end of his career. He trained a great number of phlebologists of my generation with a lot of dedication of patience and kindness.

A man of remarkable education, he was appreciated by all and continued to attend SFP meetings into old age, always encouraging his many French and foreign students.

He made a huge contribution to our profession, he was a key figure in the history of SFP and Global Phlebology. A full tribute will be paid to him by Dr Frédéric Vin in N°4 of Phlébologie Annales Vasculaires.

The French Society of Phlebology offers its most sincere condolences to his family.
